iPad Games that USE your iPhone

Posted by ipadblog on Friday, 9 April, 2010

How cool does this picture look?

Gizmodo has this to say about the concept (well it’s a reality now)

You can’t deny, it’s pretty metaphysically silly to be playing a board game your parents bought at a yard sale for $2 on a $500+ iPad, in conjunction with two or more $200+ iPhones. Mix in service plans, accessories, the price of the app ($10), and the bribes you’ll have to pay your friends to join in on something so embarrassing, and you’re really pushing the limits of common sense with Scrabble for the iPad. But we will say this: it is pretty cool. We just paired up a couple iPhones (running the free Tile Rack app) and joined in with the iPad over Bluetooth or WiFi (the app makes it unclear as to which particular wireless tech is doing the honors at the moment, but both work) and in moments we were swiping tiles up to the iPad with the best of them.

I just wanna play this game for the cool factor!  I always loose at Scrabble too!

As you can imagine, there is a lot of news coming out about the iPad.

Here are my favourite stories today!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I thought the iPad would be good for table top games, and it looks like developers agree with me – check this out.  The app os a little basic at the moment, I am holding out for Ableton Live for the iPad.

Next up, another of my prophesies seems to be coming true, more iPad music production software is on the way.  Read more about it here!

Apple’s recent launch of the iPad also paved way to new apps. You can find tons of apps in the store where you can select the ones that can be so interesting. The good news is Apple has created open web platform that combines different factors. The hardware includes web kit tools and 3G internet capabilities. Tech geeks really love iPad. If you owned an iPhone previously, you can navigate the iPad easily. Of course, there are other people with different mindset. You can incorporate tools such as flash and adobe. If you are a web developer, there are a lot of things to love in this tool.

Apple makers surely know what they are doing. It will certainly become a magical device that everyone wants to have. They definitely know how the people mind work. The iPhone has definitely target communication purposes. On the other hand, Ipad is targeted on students, office workers, executives, home makers and more. Definitely there are a lot of changes in the device. It is simply a step when it comes to design. You can surely find an application that would surely fit your lifestyle. Truly this gadget is a breakthrough among other kind of devices in the market today.

The iPad is a gadget that is recently launched and a lot of tech addicts love its wonderful design and the things that it can do. Overall, people love the touch screen features of this gadget making it one of a kind. The notable thing about iPad is the fact that you can run many applications in this device. If you are familiar with iPhone, you will sure love iPad as it got all features and then more. It uses the OS 3.2 and features a multi touch display and on screen keyboard. The company also releases extras such as iPad protection.

Apple is very clear on its plans when it comes to applications that would send users to the roof. Of course they want iPad apps that are available in different combinations like iTunes. You can also look into different applications just like working on a real pc. Examples are iBooks and iBookstore which can surely make the day of any book lovers. iPad Developer Tips

Posted by ipadblog on Thursday, 18 February, 2010

This awesome post from Waracle really gets to grips with what the iPad developer needs to know.  A great piece.

Apple has produced a dedicated SDK for eager iPad developers. Developers can utilise double pixel mode to view existing apps in full screen or simply run the app at a normal resolution in the centre of the iPad by pressing a button.  Certain apps will run reasonably well on the iPad in double pixel view.  What developers can now do with the iPad, is optimise and enhance existing applications and games to take advantage of the hardware improvements and modifications. The iPad means bigger, faster, shinier apps essentially.

iPad Apps What’s the Buzz

Posted by ipadblog on Thursday, 18 February, 2010

The beauty of the iPad has been the transition for developers from making iPhone apps and games easily and quickly to the iPad.  The community has virtually exploded with news of apps and ideas to capitalize on the early success stories of so many people when the iPhone SDK was first released.  Unlike for the iPhone where there was a wait before you could get your hands on the SDK, the iPad SDK was released concurrently with the device.  Another key to note is that the Apple’s catalog will also work with the iPad.  Developers have an interesting conundrum if anything about whether to focus all of their efforts on the iPhone, the iPad or both.

The bottom line is that the user base is obviously non-existent and also the risk inherent in developing an app for a non-standard surface.  Spending money on budgets to create apps for the iPad might not necessarily be as easy as port this to the iPhone too.  Certainly pipelines will evolve to rectify this but time will tell if the iPad will have apps that are suited to its platform or it will be an all out explosion like we saw with the iPhone.

Top 5 Apps for the iPad

Posted by ipadblog on Wednesday, 17 February, 2010

So many people are being critical of the iPad, looking at what they think it won’t do.  I’m going to take a minute to think about what I want it to be able to do.   I love using apps on my iphone, so I hope that iPad developers will get on board and invest their time into devleoping some seriously rocking apps.   Here’s my wishlist:

5. Games.  Now, I know that this isn’t a ground breaking idea.  But I would love some iPad games.  I really think the platform would lend itself naturally to some types of game.

  • Board Games –   (imagine chess, monopoly, cluedo on your new iPad).
  • Kids Games – (think of games like marbles that you used to play on the floor when your were little) crashing carsh into each other, soliders etc.
  • Map Games – I am specifically thinking of Red Alert 2.

4. Blogger Client.  I’m being as imaginative as a pencil here, but I would dearly love a WYSIWYG client for blogger.  Publishing from a tablet must be fun – dragging things around the screen and all that.

3. Photo Manipulation.  I’m really looking forward to the iPhones Photoshop app getting a re-working for the iPad.  I’m really imagining photo-editing giving me the full Minority Report expereince if I’m honest.

2. Music Perfmance Apps/Games. I can imagine these being awesome on a larger screen with a faster processor.  Imagine “Rock Band” with 2/4 people connected by wifi jamming along.  Imagine a Kaoss Pad style audio effects processor… either as a game to “mess-up” tunes from your library, or with added hardware maniuplate an external audio source (okay i’m a music-tech geek, just leave me alone!).

1.Magazines/Newspapers.  I have a feeling that this is where the iPad is going to change the game.  I check http://news.bbc.co.uk almost every morning, and its okay.  I receive a daily email from my favourite newspaper, and its nice enough.  There has to be, there must be an opportunity to make something radically different with the iPad.  If I knew what it was, I would do it.  Something that makes reading my morning news more exciting than logging onto a website, some pleasing than a regular print paper.   Come on devs, make it happen!

What have I missed off?
